Job Overview
The Clinical Secretary Nursing Assistant performs clerical duties on a nursing unit, answers the telephone, relays messages, and acts as a receptionist receiving and directing visitors and ambulatory patients. This role is responsible for direct patient care services as assigned by the Clinical Director and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Answer telephone and patient call bells in a prompt and appropriate manner
- Transcribe orders accurately
- Maintain charts in appropriate order, flag, and label for verbal orders
- File labs and other reports accurately
- Initiate referrals and consults appropriately
- Report changes in patient’s condition to RN/LPN
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma with successful completion of Medical Terminology course and passing score on examination, or 2 years of specific work experience with medical terminology
- High School Diploma with completion of approved course of study for Nursing Assistant training or successful completion of fundamentals semester of Nursing school preferred
Experience Qualifications
- One year of Clerical experience or Nursing Assistant experience preferred
Skills And Abilities
- Works with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare providers
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Nursing Assistant - National Nurse Aide Assessment Program preferred
- Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire, with recertification every two years
