The Production Manager should possess the desire and ability to dynamically contribute to the success of the facility. The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced environment, consistently demonstrate initiative, and handle multiple rigorous projects with strong attention to detail, committed to producing high quality products. The Production Manager reports to the Assistant Plant Manager and directs the activities of the Boise Plant’s production departments (Receiving, Processing, and Packaging) while collaborating with Safety, Quality, Warehouse and Maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a true strategic partner within the facility by leading and guiding Production Department Supervisors; ensure individual performance meets or exceeds goals and expectations
- Maintain effective communications and status reports with the entire management team
- Ensure superior levels of safety, reliability, sanitation, quality and regulatory conformance
- Sponsor continuous improvement initiatives and provide momentum for successful completion
- Demonstrate leadership in optimizing production operations to impact fiscal stability and productivity
- Prepare and conduct team meetings to ensure proper communications and updates
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Human Resources, and EHS to accomplish facility goals
- Maximize yields and throughput; minimize off-specification product
- Ensure safe work performance standards and address potentially disruptive personnel issues effectively
- Act as Subject Matter Expert in production processes and related equipment
- Provide training and development for plant production personnel
- Assess and report on plant operations and their fiscal impact, including upsets and downtime
- Address production issues proactively to ensure swift resolution
- Mentor and develop supervisors; ensure effective employee communication, training and quality program compliance
- Review production, quality control, maintenance and operational reports to identify causes of nonconformity
- Partner with continuous improvement leaders to implement Lean principles
- Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to build an engaged team
- Establish goals, set expectations, and foster a culture of accountability
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to analytically troubleshoot manufacturing processes; strong background in mechanical applications in food and/or dairy processing
- Fluent in Continuous Improvement Processes (Root Cause Analysis, Statistical Process Control, Standardized Procedural Development); ability to justify improvements financially
- Flexible in moving between operational and financial disciplines
- Apply GMP procedures to the system and ensure conformance
- Perform daily checks and reports to meet quality and production goals
- Computer literate in PC-based applications (Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle, EAM) and familiarity with PLC-based process controls
- Experience working with diverse groups and ability to achieve results through management of others
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; self-motivated with minimal oversight
Education, Experience, and Certifications
- Three to five years of experience in dairy, food processing, or similar facility
- Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business or related field preferred
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, OSHA, and applicable regulatory standards
