Position Summary
The Production Supervisor will manage, plan, and direct manufacturing activities for assigned departments, with a specialized focus on finishing and bindery operations. This position is responsible for maintaining production, quality, inventory, and safety standards. Manage production employees: assist with scheduling, identify training and coaching needs, conduct performance evaluations and set expectations and goals.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions Include
- Plan and schedule manpower and equipment to meet production goals.
- Oversee workflow and team member placement to ensure production deadlines and quality standards are met.
- Assist with the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of finishing/bindery equipment, including die cutters, folders, foil stampers, and case binding machines.
- Conduct quality checks to ensure finished products meet specifications before moving to the next stage.
- Partner with Quality Assurance to minimize process deviations and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 procedures.
- Maintain daily production records and update schedules as needed.
- Ensure compliance with job specifications, customer requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Monitor appropriate use and safety of finishing/bindery equipment.
- Perform routine checks and coordinate maintenance to ensure smooth machine operation.
- Monitor and hold staff accountable for accurate record-keeping.
- Perform routine and emergency maintenance to keep all machines operating smoothly.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating personnel on proper equipment usage and enforcing safety protocols.
- Supervise and train production employees; identify training needs and provide coaching and personal development opportunities.
- Assist with year-end physical inventory activities.
- Communicate company policies, department updates, and key initiatives to subordinates regularly.
- Responsible for maintaining high employee morale and strong ethical standards.
- Stand in as a backup to the production manager for attendance records and timekeeping for employees in the payroll system.
- Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned
- Work under general supervision
Job Requirements Include
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering or related field preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years previous of experience in a production or manufacturing environment, with at least some experience in a supervisory role or demonstrated progression in leadership positions.
Knowledge/Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and ERP systems (AX preferred).
- Understanding of production processes, quality control, and manufacturing best practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, across different levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to motivate and evaluate employees while fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Knowledge of inventory management principles and bill of materials (BOM).
- Basic mathematical skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following company policies and procedures.
- Positive work attitude with a willingness to take initiative and support business objectives.
