Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 3:00 am - 11:30 am (Alternative shift times may be available: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm, depending on departmental needs)

Job Summary

Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) is dedicated to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, high-quality learning and working environment. CPFM oversees university resources and assets and is responsible for facilities development, operations, and maintenance, including custodial services. We seek an exceptional Custodian to join the Custodial Services team. The ideal candidate will be ethical, positive, diverse-minded, open, flexible, and team-oriented.

This is a key position that supports campus cleanliness to uphold the university’s mission and values. The Custodian works well in a team, takes initiative, and is dedicated to quality, dependability, and reliability. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of custodial duties in and around assigned buildings (classrooms, restrooms, offices, and other facilities).
  • Demonstrate a methodical, organized approach to completing work with a strong focus on safety.
  • Maintain high safety awareness, properly use personal protective equipment (PPE), and promptly address trip/slip/fall hazards.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact courteously with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Share duties in a team environment, take ownership, and show initiative to complete tasks as needed.
  • Contribute to a learning environment by caring for campus facilities and supporting the university’s mission and values.

Essential Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for duties; ability to follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety.
  • Ability to operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to use custodial systems (e.g., work order tracking, two-way radios) for communication.
  • Ability to perform regular physical activity, observe safety requirements, and adhere to safe work practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.
  • Position may require the ability to safely move up to 50 pounds.
  • Background check (including criminal records check) required for employment; conditional offer may be rescinded if disqualifying information is found.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous commercial custodial experience in an educational environment.
  • Training and certification in floor care equipment and products.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., logging into work order databases, Absence Management, email).

License/Certifications

A valid California driver's license.

Special Working Conditions

Extended periods of walking, bending, kneeling, reaching overhead, climbing a ladder, pushing or pulling custodial carts; sweeping, vacuuming; exposure to chemicals and dust.
