Welding Shop Foreman – Can You Teach Old Dogs New Tricks?

Full Time: min 40 hours per week

Shift: 6 am to 2:30 pm

Salary Range: $35 to $45 per hour

The Role

Pro-Type Industries is looking for a Welding Shop Foreman to lead our welding and fabrication team in a precision-driven aerospace manufacturing environment. This role is critical to ensuring high-quality welds, compliance with aerospace welding specifications, and efficient daily operations in the welding department.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Welding team and department; motivate, coach and teach
  • Drive high quality production required for the aerospace industry

Job Duties Include

  • Supervise, coordinate, and lead a team of welders in the production of aerospace components and assemblies
  • Interpret and enforce welding standards including AWS D17.1 (Aerospace), D1.1 (Structural Steel), D1.2 (Aluminum), and D1.6 (Stainless Steel)
  • Ensure all welds meet customer, regulatory, and industry requirements, including customer-specific quality standards
  • Conduct weld inspections and quality checks; ensure welding procedures (WPS/PQR) are followed
  • Provide hands-on training, mentorship, and skill development to welding personnel
  • Manage shop scheduling, prioritize work orders, and allocate labor to meet deadlines
  • Maintain accurate production records, inspection reports, and documentation
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Project Management teams on job planning and execution
  • Support audits and compliance checks, including AS9100 requirements
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment in accordance with OSHA standards

Job Qualifications

  • Technical or vocational training in welding/fabrication
  • Experience in an AS9100 or NADCAP certified facility
  • Prior work with aluminum, stainless steel, steel, alloy steel
  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of welding experience, with 5 or more years in a supervisory or foreman role
  • Certification in one or more of the following: AWS D17.1, D1.1, D1.2, D1.6
  • Proficient in GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), Spot Welding and other welding processes used in aerospace fabrication
