Overview
This is a second shift position, hours 2:30 – 11:00 PM with a 10% shift differential in addition to the posted hourly rate. The Electrician I - Lead reports to the Electrician II and acts as a lead over other crew members from Electrical and Security Electronics within the Building Operations Section of the Facilities Management Division (FMD).
Position purpose: perform the full scope of journey-level electrician work and lead others as assigned.
Who is the Facilities Management Division?
FMD operates and manages the County\'s capital assets with a workforce of over 300 employees, maintaining approximately 3 million square feet of facilities that support King County services, including courthouses, justice centers, administration building, animal shelter, and public health facilities. Facilities include boilers, chillers, DDC controls, ventilation fans, pumps and compressors, and fire/life/safety systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform journey-level electrical maintenance and installation tasks. The Electrician Lead will assist the Electrician II. Develop, organize, assign, and oversee maintenance and project plans and schedules for electrical systems and components.
- Design, estimate, plan, and schedule projects and maintenance; coordinate with contractors when necessary.
- Assist in developing, organizing, and implementing a preventative maintenance program; assign and oversee preventative maintenance plans for electrical work and components.
- Triage, schedule, assign, route, and oversee work orders using the Maximo system or equivalent; monitor status and reconcile employee timesheets with work orders and daily performance.
- Ensure staff training via training programs; utilize established computerized systems to document work, communicate, schedule and monitor performance and expenditures, and access information.
- Prepare cost estimates for labor and materials on proposed jobs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State General Journeyman-01 license.
- Three (3) years or more of experience performing journey-level electrician work; ability to work independently or with other electricians or in a team with other trades.
- One (1) year of leadership experience; ability to direct, plan, and coordinate the work of others.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Skill in communicating ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in estimating materials and labor for completed work.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Problem-solving skills.
MOST COMPETITIVE CANDIDATES WILL HAVE
- Three (3) years or more of experience as a journey-level electrician in security, life safety, and electrical maintenance.
- One (1) year of leadership experience; project leadership applies.
Necessary Special Requirements
- Washington State Driver\'s License.
- Washington State Electrical License E01.
Additional Position Information
- This position is designated as a FIRST RESPONDER in the event of a proclaimed emergency, with a role in emergency response to protect life and property.
- Reports to the King County Chinook Building in Downtown Seattle; may be relocated to other locations such as Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA.
- Work schedule is Monday–Friday, 2:30 – 11:00 PM. The position may be on a paid rotating standby list for non-duty days (weekends and holidays).
- We are creating a hiring list for future positions that may become available in the next 12 months.
- These positions are non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and are overtime-eligible.
- Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule; schedule and location are to be determined. Incumbents are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 46.
- Final appointment is contingent upon background investigation and pre-employment physical examination.
