This position will be a second shift position, with the hours being from 2:30 - 11:00 PM and will receive a 10% shift differential, in addition to the posted hourly.

Facilities Management Division (FMD) has an immediate need for a driven and experienced Electrician I - Lead to join the Electrical and Security Electronics crew within our Building Operations Section. The Electrician I - Lead will perform the full scope of journey level electrician work and act as a lead over other crew members from both groups. This position will report to the Electrician II.

Who is the Facilities Management Division?

Through a workforce of over 300 dedicated employees, the FMD operates and manages the County's capital assets by developing and maintaining cost-conscious, sustainable, high-quality facilities, and environments. The Building Services Section of FMD maintains approximately 3 million square feet in facilities where King County provides regional services, including the King County Courthouse and District Courts, Maleng Regional Justice Center, King County Administration Building, King County Animal Shelter, and several Public Health facilities. Our facilities range in age from 8 to 100 years, with equipment such as boilers, chillers, DDC controls, ventilation fans, pumps and compressors, and fire/life/safety systems.

Job Duties

  • Perform journey level electrical maintenance and installation tasks as assigned. In addition to performing journey level assignments and tasks, the Electrician lead will assist the Electrician II. Develop, organize, assign and oversee maintenance and project plans and schedules for electrical-related systems and associated components.
  • Design, estimate, plan and schedule projects and maintenance for specific projects and/or programs; coordinate with contractors when necessary.
  • Assist in the development, organization and implementation of a preventative maintenance program; assign and oversee preventative maintenance plans and schedules for electrical-related work and associated components.
  • Triage, schedule, assign, route, and oversee work orders; utilizing the Maximo work order system or similar work order process; monitor work order status and schedules. Review, reconcile and verify employee timesheets with work orders and daily performance.
  • Ensure staff are properly trained by providing necessary training and/or implementing training programs. Appropriately and effectively utilize established computerized systems and software to communicate; document work and related issues; schedule and monitor work performance and expenditures; access work-related information.
  • Prepare cost estimates for labor and materials on proposed jobs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State General Journeyman-01 license.
  • Three (3) years or more experience performing the work of a journey-level electrician, and able to work independently or with other electricians, or in a composite team with other tradecrafts.
  • One (1) year of experience in a leadership position; giving direction, planning and coordinating the work of others; Project Leadership applies.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in expressing and conveying ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in estimating materials and labor needed to complete work.
  • Proficient skill in using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Skill in problem-solving

Most Competitive Candidates Will Have

  • Three (3) years or more of experience performing the work of a journey-level security, life safety, and electrical maintenance electrician
  • One (1) year of experience in a leadership position; giving direction, planning and coordinating the work of others; Project Leadership applies.

Necessary Special Requirements

  • Washington State Driver's License.
  • Washington State Electrical License E01.

Additional Position Information

  • This position has been designated by department leadership as a FIRST RESPONDER in the event of a proclaimed emergency. Meaning this position has a role in emergency response and is responsible for the protection and preservation of life, property, evidence, environment and/or restoration of order.
  • This position reports to the King County Chinook Building in Downtown Seattle, however, may be relocated to other locations such as the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA.
  • The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 2:30 – 11:00 PM. This position is also required to be on a paid rotating standby list for non-duty days such as weekends and holidays.
  • We are also creating a hiring list for any future positions that become available in the next 12 months.
  • These positions are non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and are therefore overtime-eligible.
  • Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hour workweek; schedule and work location are to be determined.
  • Incumbents in these positions are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 46.
  • Final appointment is contingent upon successfully passing a thorough federal and county background investigation and clearing a pre-employment physical examination.
