This is a full-time, in-office position in Overland Park, Kansas. The HR Specialist is the payroll expert and advisor, responsible for timely and accurate processing of payroll, benefits reconciliation, and related reporting for all DI Holdings companies.

Responsibilities

  • Payroll — Administer and manage payroll for DI Holdings companies, including:
    • Make payroll journal entries in designated accounting software
    • Handle changes to addresses, titles, salaries, incentives, commissions, 401(k) contributions/loans, and other deductions
    • Process employee tax withholding changes (federal, state, local)
    • Manage Health Savings Account information and ensure annual IRS contribution limits are not exceeded
    • Process wage garnishments and answer payroll questions (paychecks, withholdings, PTO, etc.)
    • Collaborate with Talent Management to set up new hires in the payroll system (direct deposit, I-9, PTO, taxes, etc.)
    • Generate and review HRIS reports; support employee recognition programs
    • Before each payroll, verify hours, benefit premiums, salary changes, PTO, etc.; ensure payroll register accuracy
    • Review Personnel Action Forms and ensure data transfer is complete
    • Process quarterly bonuses as scheduled; perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting
    • Coordinate with payroll provider on annual tax reports (W-2) and ACA reporting
    • Ensure accurate PTO tracking and Prevailing Wage payroll entries; coordinate with Project Managers
  • Benefits — Reconcile monthly invoicing; coordinate with carriers/brokers for discrepancies
  • Assist with annual benefits Open Enrollment; ensure proper benefit deductions for new hires and terminated employees
  • Manage retroactive benefit deductions for eligible employees and those on leave; monitor repayment plans
  • Enter monthly benefits reconciliations in accounting software
  • Provide 401(k) audit information to external consultants and respond during audits
  • Enter COBRA terminations timely and reconcile payments with the third-party administrator
  • Assist with monthly FSA contributions and annual reconciliation; support Wellness program planning
  • Compliance — Manage Federal and State poster compliance; maintain electronic personnel files in HRIS
  • Coordinate with Talent Management to ensure E-Verify compliance
  • Ensure EEOC data is entered and manage annual EEOC reporting
  • Assist with employee communications related to payroll or tax updates
  • Workers’ Compensation — Assist supervisors with claims, coordinate with the insurance provider, and serve as main contact
  • Ensure accurate Work Comp categories in payroll and oversee annual Work Comp audit
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
    • Strong knowledge of payroll and accounting principles
    • Commitment to accuracy and ongoing professional development
    • Familiarity with DOL, federal and state regulations
    • Proficiency in Excel and Word; strong communication and analytical skills
    • Ability to handle sensitive data and maintain confidentiality
    • Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and multi-tasking abilities
  • Education/Certifications/Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field preferred
    • Experience providing HR support across multiple locations or business units preferred
    • At least 3+ years of payroll processing experience required
    • Experience processing payroll in an HRIS for 300+ employees required

  • Physical Demands — Readiness to perform tasks described; ability to talk and hear; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; various vision requirements
  • Work Environment — Onsite fabrication environment; exposure to conditions typical of manufacturing
