Overview

Performs general cleaning duties in designated buildings as assigned by Grounds and Custodial Director. This role requires exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment, teamwork, strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
  • Clean areas around entrances to buildings including snow removal and salting.
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture, whiteboards, lighting, and accessories; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers and refill restroom dispensers.
  • Event setup/teardown of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors (where applicable); vacuum and shampoo carpets; use and maintain power equipment and hand tools (auto scrubbers/extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers, vacuums, brooms, mops, squeegees, etc.).
  • Safely use ladders when required; lock and unlock interior rooms; check for unlocked doors and windows, report unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights.
  • Operate snow removal equipment as needed.
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools as required.
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows; clean blinds.
  • Assist with campus recycling initiatives.
  • Maintain cleaning operations, monitor progress, and support the institution’s goals; respond in a timely, professional, respectful, and proactive manner.
  • Assist staff and teams with work requests, projects, and daily operations; communicate work-arounds, determine scope and estimate time of work.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the College’s beliefs, values, mission and vision and participate in evaluation against them.

Knowledge Of

  • Current cleaning methods, materials and equipment
  • Basic features within Microsoft Office (Outlook)
  • Windows operating system
  • Work request and job ticketing systems; document work as required

Preferred

  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Operation, maintenance, and repair of cleaning equipment
  • OSHA, MIOSHA, and fire and safety regulations

Education And Experience

Minimum

  • One or more years of related experience
  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred

  • Associates degree

Ability to present a positive image of the college and Facilities Department; maintain neat personal appearance and follow task-related dress codes.

Language, Mathematical and Reasoning Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic and apply concepts of area and volume
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions

Licensure, Certification and Other Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Physical Demands

Regularly stand, walk, climb, use hands, reach; occasionally stoop or crouch. Lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

Occasionally exposed to electrical risk, wet/humid conditions, fumes, extreme heat, outdoor weather, and moving parts. Exposure to toxins or caustic chemicals. May require flexible scheduling including weekends and evenings. Duties may include responding to emergencies and pre-planned events.
