Our client is a respected and long-standing nonprofit dedicated to providing critical support services to children, youth, and families throughout the New Britain community. Through comprehensive mental health programs, family stabilization services, and community engagement initiatives, the organization plays a vital role in empowering and uplifting local families. Position Summary:
The Director of Finance will play a strategic and hands-on role overseeing all financial activities for the organization. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the leadership team, the Director will ensure sound fiscal management, compliance with nonprofit funding regulations, and financial transparency. This role is critical to maintaining the organization's financial health and sustaining its mission-driven work. Key Responsibilities:
Lead all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and compliance.
Manage and mentor a small finance team (AP/AR, payroll, and grants reporting staff).
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements and reports for leadership and the Board.
Oversee cash flow management, general ledger reconciliation, and financial audits.
Manage and monitor grant funding, contract budgets, and restricted/unrestricted fund tracking.
Develop and implement internal controls, financial policies, and procedures.
Liaise with external auditors, funders, and government agencies as needed.
Serve as a strategic partner to leadership on long-term planning and resource allocation.
Ensure compliance with all applicable nonprofit and GAAP regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive financial experience, with at least 2 years in a nonprofit setting.
Strong knowledge of fund accounting, grant management, and nonprofit compliance.
Proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, MIP, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Proven ability to lead and develop a finance team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work on-site and start immediately.
