The University of Georgia is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager to provide research support to the stone fruit and pecan research projects at the USDA - ARS Fruit and Tree Nut research Lab located at Byron, GA. Responsibilities
Perform various farming duties in pecan and peach orchard settings, including operation of farm tractors and other heavy equipment. Scout orchards for disease and pest issues, monitor plant and soil nutrient levels, and assist in planning of applications. Maintain and monitor irrigation systems, create schedules for planting, irrigation, spraying, fertilizing, pruning, training, and planting orchards. Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience. Technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, professional certificate, or extensive farming experience. Georgia Pesticide Applicator’s license (or able to obtain within 90 days). Working Conditions
Ability to lift 40 pounds, work outside under high heat and humidity. Some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring walking or bending.
