Position Overview: An Associate Research Scientist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Chunhua Weng in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City. This opening is enabled by several NIH funded research projects. Responsibilities
The ideal candidate is expected to work closely with a highly collaborative interdisciplinary team including experts in clinical phenotyping, natural language processing, and clinical informatics to (1) conduct innovative and reproducible AI and NLP research guided by the specific aims in the funded project and (2) disseminate results through quality publications and open-source algorithms and software. Qualifications
Required : Ph.D. in Computer Science/Engineering, Biomedical or Electronic Engineering, Data Science, Biostatistics, Biomedical or Health Informatics, Information Science, or other quantitatively oriented population health fields; or an M.D. with a strong computational background. Additional Qualifications : Experienced with modern data mining and machine learning methods. Proficient with computer programming in popular languages such as Python or Java. Experienced with large language models for text or unstructured data processing. Excellent communication and writing skills, including a record of peer-reviewed manuscript writing and scientific presentations in related research areas.
