PCU RN Details
- Location: Charleston, West Virginia 25301
- Healthcare Setting: 5 South - Trauma Stepdown (IMC/PCU)
- Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: October 30, 2025
- End Date: January 29, 2026
- Shifts: 3x12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM); every other weekend required
- Hours per Week: 36 guaranteed
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1680 - $1730
- Orientation: 16 hours (every other Thursday)
- Unit Details: 25 floor beds, 6 step-down beds, 6 pediatric beds (travel RNs not required to see pediatric patients)
- Patient Ratios: Floor RN 1:5, Stepdown RN 1:3
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue/White
- Parking: Free for travel nurses
PCU RN Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in acute care settings
- At least 1 year of recent experience in PCU, IMC, Trauma, or Stepdown nursing
- Active West Virginia or Compact State RN license (pending license accepted)
- BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association required)
- CPI and Fit Test (can be completed during onboarding)
- TNCC certification preferred
- Proficiency in IV starts, ventilator management, telemetry, Level 1 trauma, and conscious sedation
- Ability to float within scope as needed
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (medical exemptions accepted with documentation)
- First-time travel nurses accepted if experienced in ICU/Trauma
- Must reside at least 100 miles from facility (75-99 miles considered case-by-case)
PCU RN Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality patient care to adult and geriatric trauma and surgical patients in a fast-paced PCU/Stepdown environment
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team including IV teams, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services
- Monitor and manage patients with complex conditions, such as traumatic brain injuries, orthopedic trauma, and post-surgical recovery
- Administer and manage critical drips (amiodarone, cardizem, precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin, nitroglycerin)
- Perform and manage procedures including wound care, chest tubes, tracheostomy care, feeding tubes, and arterial lines
- Participate in rapid response/code teams and ensure accurate documentation in Cerner
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, including fit testing and required certifications
- Provide patient and family education and support throughout the continuum of care
