  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00pm – 7:30am), weekdays and every other weekend
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week (option for 48 hours/week)
  • Estimated Weekly Salary: $1680 - $1730
  • Orientation: 16 hours, biweekly (Thursday/Friday)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Scrub Colors: Royal Blue/White
  • Parking: Free parking garage for travel nurses

PICU RN Qualifications

  • Active RN license in West Virginia or Compact State (pending license accepted, must be active by start date)
  • Minimum 2 years of registered nurse experience
  • At least 1 year of recent PICU or pediatric specialty nursing experience
  • Previous charge nurse experience required
  • BLS and PALS certifications (American Heart Association) required
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • First-time travel nurses welcome
  • Must reside at least 100 miles from facility (75-99 miles considered with approval)
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (medical exemptions only)
  • No COVID vaccine required
  • Minimum 2 manager or charge nurse references within past 2 years
  • Ability to float within scope to meet hospital needs

PICU RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU
  • Serve as charge nurse during assigned shifts
  • Administer blood products, anticonvulsants, antihypertensives, and other medications
  • Manage and maintain central lines (CVC/PICC) and peripheral IVs
  • Perform newborn care, including assessments, discharge teaching, and parent education
  • Operate advanced monitoring equipment (CVP, ICP, EVD, ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP)
  • Interpret ABGs and dysrhythmias, manage sedation and airway
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Social Services)
  • Float to other pediatric or critical care units as needed
