Overview

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the organization by ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. This position will be responsible for general ledger management, financial reporting, audit preparation, and compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. A strong background in non-profit accounting and hands-on experience with IRS Form 990 is required. Location: Boston, MA. Responsibilities

Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded and reconciled. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards. Assist with the preparation and review of the annual IRS Form 990 and related tax filings. Support the annual audit process by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and responding to auditor requests. Monitor grant activity and restricted funds, ensuring proper allocation and reporting of expenditures. Review and reconcile bank accounts, investment accounts, and other balance sheet items. Ensure compliance with internal policies and applicable regulations. Provide financial analysis and recommendations to management to support decision-making. Mentor junior accounting staff and support cross-functional teams with financial guidance. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred. 3+ years of progressive accounting experience. Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting principles, fund accounting, and financial reporting. Experience preparing or reviewing IRS Form 990 is required. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel. Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial staff. Seniority level
