Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic finance leader to oversee our nonprofit organization’s financial operations. This role combines hands-on accounting expertise with team leadership, compliance oversight, and strategic financial planning. Location: Boston, MA. Key Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of accounting, including general ledger, reconciliations, cash management, payroll, receivables, contracts, and grants in accordance with GAAP. Oversee financial operations for real estate projects, including draws, certifications, and LIHTC accounting. Lead preparation for annual audits and ensure compliance with all regulatory filings (e.g., IRS Form 990, Uniform Guidance). Develop, update, and implement accounting policies and procedures. Strengthen internal controls and provide training to Finance staff. Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of three accountants. Maintain and enhance Sage Intacct and other related financial systems. Provide timely and accurate data for budgets, proposals, and grant reporting. Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable reports for diverse stakeholders. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with 7+ years of progressive experience, including at least 4 years as a Controller or senior finance leader in a nonprofit with a $7M+ budget. 3+ years of experience managing and developing teams, with a track record of fostering accountability and growth. Deep knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and regulatory compliance. Hands-on experience with federal and state contracts, audits (including Single Audits and multi-entity audits), and tax-exempt practices. Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities. Proficiency in Sage Intacct (or similar), advanced Excel, and familiarity with Salesforce or other integrated cloud systems. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders. High integrity, personal accountability, and sound judgment, with a collaborative and diplomatic approach. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with competing priorities.
