Overview

Dean of Research, Stanford, California, United States. The Stanford Center on China’s Economy and Institutions (SCCEI) seeks a Senior Associate Director with proven experience and leadership skills to serve as the center’s chief administrative officer. The Senior Associate Director reports directly to the faculty Co-Directors and is responsible for all administrative and programmatic functions, supervising center staff who manage or administer human resources, finance, grants and contracts, events, communications, external affairs, strategic partnerships, research programs, student services, facilities, and IT. Manage staff in day-to-day operations for functional areas of responsibility. Responsible for hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, personal development for direct reports, and accountability for performance. Ensure work is completed within schedule and constraints. Guide faculty supervisors in interpretation and implementation of human resources policies, procedures and programs, independently or with HR managers. Evaluate business processes and operational/financial effectiveness. Analyze and resolve complex issues and lead process improvements as needed. Assess unit needs and recommend changes in staffing, facilities, health and safety compliance, finance, technology, and administrative functions. Coordinate with the Chair and Dean’s Office regarding resources to support faculty activities. Interpret, implement, and ensure compliance with university academic and administrative policies. Recommend new internal policies, guidelines and procedures. Manage the finances across all sources for the annual budget, including development, monitoring, analysis, forecasting, and reporting. Manage and coordinate grants and contracts for the department and ensure compliance with institutional and external requirements. Represent the unit’s business and academic operations within the organization/school. Manage student and faculty program administration for the unit. Minimum Requirements

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or a combination of education and relevant experience. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Demonstrated supervisory skills including conflict resolution. Excellent planning and organizational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of accounting, budget planning and financial forecasting. Working knowledge of grants and contract administration. Analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail. Strong skills in business and management software and databases. Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements. Ability to multi-task and manage deadlines. Subject matter expertise for areas of responsibility. Interest in international affairs and policy, specifically the study of China’s economy. Experience leading a professional team in administration and program management for faculty and students. Certifications

Completion of the Cardinal Research Administration Foundational Training or CRAFT training within 12 months of hire. Physical Requirements

Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks; frequently seated; occasionally stand/walk, writing by hand, use a telephone, and lift/carry/push/pull objects weighing 11-20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations available for disabilities as required by law. Working Conditions

Occasional evening and weekend hours. Onsite/Hybrid and Compensation

The expected pay range for this position is $120,276 to $170,000 per annum. Stanford provides pay ranges as a good faith estimate of compensation.
