Analog Photonics
Overview
Analog Photonics is a Boston-based high-technology company developing advanced silicon photonics solutions. Our proprietary platform powers world-leading solid-state LiDAR, optical communications, and silicon photonics PDKs with chip-scale integration at the forefront. We offer an environment where engineers rapidly develop multi-disciplinary skills across device design, simulation, fabrication, testing, packaging, and systems. At Analog Photonics, your contributions will have a direct impact on real hardware and products. Job Description We are hiring a Silicon Photonics Engineer to join our team with a primary focus in either device testing and/or PDK development and maintenance, depending on the candidate’s expertise and interest. This position is ideal for engineers who want to develop deep skills in integrated photonics, contribute to real-world product development, and work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. Depending on the role focus, your responsibilities will center on either experimental photonic device testing or maintaining and expanding our internal silicon photonics PDK (or both, if desired). Option A: Focus on Photonic Device Testing Conduct optical and electrical testing of photonic components (e.g., couplers, modulators, photodetectors, resonators, switches). Operate and debug wafer- and die-scale automated testing setups using tunable lasers, photodetectors, and probe stations. Analyze large volumes of measurement data to identify trends, extract key parameters, and provide feedback to designers. Develop and maintain automated testing scripts using MATLAB, Python, or similar tools. Manage wafer/component inventory and contribute to lab infrastructure development. Support broader programs involving device qualification for LiDAR and datacom systems. Option B: Focus on PDK Maintenance & Development Work closely with photonic designers to maintain and update internal PDK libraries. Validate and refine PDK components using experimental test data. Assist with building and curating a robust library of parameterized components and device models. Support full-flow layout generation and verification in tools such as Cadence Virtuoso and KLayout. Contribute to documentation and release processes for internal and external users of the PDK. Required Qualifications B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or related field with 3+ years of photonics industry experience, OR M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or related field. Hands-on experience with integrated photonics, either through device testing, layout, or modeling. Familiarity with optical lab equipment (e.g., tunable lasers, detectors, fiber alignment stages, probes). Proficiency in data analysis and automation (e.g., MATLAB, Python). Strong communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with PDK development, layout tools (Cadence Virtuoso, KLayout), or device libraries. Knowledge of silicon photonic component design and test methodologies. Experience automating test systems and controlling instruments remotely. Familiarity with photonic simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical FDTD/Mode, Synopsys tools). Understanding of laser safety, packaging workflows, and test station maintenance. Journal/conference publications as a leading author Seniority
