$90,000.00/yr - $125,000.00/yr A thriving law firm is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and confident Chief of Staff to the Managing Partner. This strategic hire will act as the managing partner’s right hand and operational partner, overseeing key firm processes, managing internal systems, and ensuring cross-departmental alignment. This is a high-impact leadership position focused on performance, compliance, and execution. The ideal candidate is an experienced legal operations professional or former paralegal with deep knowledge of law firm workflows, attorney support, and administrative systems. You’ll thrive here if you’re a critical thinker, systems-minded, and comfortable holding people accountable while building trust across all levels of the firm. Chief Of Staff Responsibilities
Manage the Managing Partner’s calendar, meetings, and task prioritization Prepare meeting agendas and follow-ups; track performance and deliverables Serve as a strategic gatekeeper and liaison for cross-functional coordination Monitor legal team KPIs and flag bottlenecks or performance issues Track attorney and paralegal billable hours and ensure accuracy Manage compliance tasks including CLE, bar status, and ethics requirements Oversee internal deadlines for case filings, hearings, and client deliverables Optimize workflows that drive profitability and legal excellence Collaborate on evaluating and implementing firm tech tools Oversee use of DMS, CMS, CRM, billing, calendaring, and task tracking platforms Audit workflows for efficiency and recommend improvements Support attorney hiring, onboarding, and performance tracking Coordinate performance reviews, staff development, and cultural initiatives Liaise with IT, vendors, and facilities on operational needs Reinforce firm values and drive team engagement through events and communication Maintain SOPs, internal documentation, and firm policies Conduct periodic audits and assist with regulatory and ethical compliance Ensure consistent adherence to the firm’s core values Chief Of Staff Requirements
5+ years of progressive experience in a law firm or legal department Background as a paralegal or legal support professional, then moved into admin/ops Experience managing attorney billables, calendaring, and legal compliance Proven success supporting executives or firm partners Experience with Trusts & Estates law is a plus Familiarity with California CLE, State Bar compliance, and legal ethics Prior use of legal tech systems is preferred Background in HR onboarding or employee development is a plus Bachelor’s degree preferred Benefits
