Hammer Construction is seeking an experienced Chief Estimator to take ownership of all estimating and preconstruction activities for residential, commercial, and institutional projects ranging from $1 million to $100 million. This is a high-impact role for a hands-on estimator who can manage the full estimating process independently — from conceptual budgeting to final bid submission. The Chief Estimator will establish and refine company estimating practices, collaborate with leadership, and help shape Hammer Construction’s preconstruction strategy as we continue to grow. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with extensive construction estimating experience and strong technical expertise. Qualifications

Minimum 10 years of experience in construction estimating. Demonstrated experience estimating and managing bids for residential, commercial, and institutional construction projects up to $100 million. In-depth understanding of all construction divisions and trade scopes under the CSI MasterFormat system. Proven ability to lead estimating efforts, manage multiple large-scale bids, and deliver results under tight deadlines. Advanced proficiency with estimating and project management software (Procore, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Sage Estimating, Fieldwire, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar). Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Strong ability to interpret complex architectural, structural, and MEP drawings and specifications. Solid grasp of construction means and methods, materials, and cost trends. Excellent communication, organization, and negotiation skills. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred). Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent professional credential (preferred). OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for site visits and meetings. Responsibilities

Serve as the company’s lead estimator, managing all estimating and preconstruction activities. Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and competitive bids for projects from $1M to $100M. Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documentation across residential, commercial, and institutional scopes. Perform accurate quantity takeoffs, scope reviews, and pricing analysis. Develop and maintain cost databases, historical pricing records, and best practices for future scalability. Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure accuracy and competitiveness. Lead value engineering efforts to optimize cost without compromising design or quality. Collaborate closely with executives, project managers, and clients to ensure clear communication and alignment during preconstruction. Track market conditions, materials pricing, and labor trends to maintain cost accuracy and competitiveness.
