• Location: Christiansburg, VA 24073 – Prime Virginia healthcare job location with mountain views, vibrant community, and outdoor recreation nearby
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (locum tenens contract)
• Setting: Inpatient Mental Health Unit (36-bed capacity)
• Shifts: 3x12-hour day shifts (06:45 AM – 07:15 PM); 4x12-hour shifts available upon request
• Hours per Week: 36
• Start Date: October 6, 2025
• End Date: January 5, 2026
• Patient Ratios: 1:6-7 (7A-11P), 1:10 (11P-7A)
• Floating: May float to Carilion Mental Health - Roanoke (mileage reimbursed at $0.50/mile)
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1680-$1730

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state)
• Minimum 2 years of recent inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health RN experience
• Travel nursing or locum tenens RN experience preferred
• BLS certification (AHA required)
• CPI-Blue certification from the Crisis Prevention Institute (must be current or scheduled)
• Proficiency with Epic electronic charting
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Ability to work at least 1 holiday during the assignment (2 during winter holidays)
• Must reside at least 100 miles from the facility (no local candidates)

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care in an inpatient behavioral health setting
• Monitor, assess, and document patient status and treatment response using Epic EHR
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to develop individualized care plans
• Utilize de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques (CPI-Blue)
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and staff
• Float to other mental health units as needed
• Complete orientation and required training modules
