Staff Mechanical Engineer Position Overview QinetiQ US is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer who will participate in mechanical design, support prototype build, and the production of military and commercial products. Products will include electromechanical ruggedized assemblies (militarized and commercial), robotics and automated machinery.

Responsibilities

The candidate will perform as an engineering team member on projects

Create designs and documentation, implement design changes, build prototype systems

Create detailed designs and drawings for fabrication

Support in-house and field testing of prototype hardware

Act as an engineering liaison to manufacturing and quality

Support existing electromechanical design, layout, and modeling of electro-mechanical assemblies, machinery and mechanisms (using CREO or Solidworks)

Interface with suppliers to support procurement of fabricated parts

Participate in the formal Engineering Change process

Resolve manufacturing and quality issues, and report on equipment build status

Perform basic tolerance analysis

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a similar engineering discipline

2-4 years' experience in mechanical design (0-3 yrs. with MSME)

Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models

Must have experience with either PTC Creo or Solidworks in the creation of detailed CAD models/drawings

Proficient using 3-D Solid Modeling software (Solidworks or PTC Creo) and have an understanding of manufacturing and testing practices

Ability to provide hands on support for building prototype designs, test equipment and perform operational testing of robotic vehicles

Knowledge of metal fabrication, machining and welding processes

Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records

Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills

Must be able to obtain a DOD Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with a CAD PDM system

Experience with geometric tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
