Position Overview QinetiQ US is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer, who will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of ruggedized military hardware products within a multidisciplinary engineering team. Products include electro-optical and electromechanical soldier-borne systems, ground-based systems, and airborne systems. Acting as a mechanical lead on projects, the candidate will conceptualize systems, plan and execute design and analysis tasks, and review and approve design documentation to ultimately deliver a system that meets customer requirements, schedule, and budget.

Responsibilities

Design hardware products using 3D CAD modeling tools

Perform design and drawing checking and approval

Responsible for oversight and tasking to other engineers on project designs

Electro-optical design, layout and modeling of electro-mechanical assemblies, and assorted ruggedized military hardware

Facilitate review meetings and present at all levels of formal design review meetings

Perform system level tolerance analysis

Provide "hands-on" support for mechanical design and product issues related to various DOD pre-production and production programs

Participate in the formal Engineering Change process within QinetiQ\'s product data management system

Interface with vendors and identify sources of supply for critical fabrication items

Creation of detail designs and drawings for fabrication

Interface with customers on a project engineering level

Participate in cost estimation for development programs

Required Qualifications

Bachelor\'s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar engineering discipline

5-12 years\' experience in mechanical design in all aspects of a product lifecycle

Direct technical lead experience managing design tasks

Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and machining processes

Experience in processing Engineering Changes to documentation on DOD programs

Experience creating and working with formal design/development processes with an emphasis on transitioning projects from prototype development to production

Must be proficient using 3-D Solid Modeling software (PTC CREO and/or Solidworks preferred)

Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models

Must have experience with metal fabrication design, electromechanical hardware design, and have an understanding of manufacturing techniques

Must have experience with creation of detailed drawing and geometric tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)

Must demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills

Must have experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Must be able to obtain a DOD Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Windchill Product Data Management software

Experience in Model Based Definition

Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA); structural, thermal, and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Experience in additive manufacturing design, methods, and materials
