We are seeking a permanent Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist to join our expanding team at Staffordshire Children’s Hospital at Royal Stoke. This is a full-time substantive post (10 PAs) with a 1 in 12 commitment to the general paediatric on-call rota, including cover for the Children’s Assessment Unit (CAU) and inpatient wards. The post holder will contribute to the development of the Paediatric Gastroenterology service, support general paediatrics, and participate in teaching, audit, and service improvement. Staffordshire Children's Hospital is part of UHNM which has two sites: Royal Stoke University Hospital, located in Stoke-on-Trent, and County Hospital, located in Stafford. The Staffordshire Children’s Hospital is based at the Royal Stoke site, all inpatient services for children are there. Outpatient clinics run at both sites. The Paediatric Department is one of the largest in the country with a number of sub speciality areas receiving tertiary care referrals. The Trust has a purpose built Children’s Centre comprising of inpatient wards, Children’s A&E and admissions unit and outpatients department adjacent to the Child Development Centre. The Child Health Directorate provides a wide range of services encompassing acute paediatrics, paediatric and neonatal intensive care, outpatients and community paediatrics. We also provide consultant support to the children’s emergency centre and deliver a range of paediatric general and speciality clinics on the County Hospital site. Provide support to local CAMHS services with nutrition related disorders including Eating disorders, ARFID and Disordered Eating. Have the opportunity to develop endoscopy skills and GI physiology skills. Participate in the 1 in 12 general paediatric on-call rota. Support the CAU and inpatient wards during service weeks. Engage in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement. Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Participate in service development and innovation. Person specification
Qualifications and Skills
MRCPCH or equivalent higher qualification Fully registered with GMC APLS, EPALS or PALS provider MBChB/MBBS or equivalent SPIN Module in Paediatric Gastroenterology Further Higher Degree, e.g. MD, PhD Level 3 safeguarding training Clinical Experience
Clinical training and experience in general paediatrics equivalent to that required for UK. CCT in paediatrics OR existing Practising Consultant in General paediatrics. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within general paediatrics Experience and understanding of using evidence based medicine and clinical audit to support decision making Management and Administrative Experience
