Overview
Civil Engineer / Structural Engineer
– Location: Washington, DC 20068 1-2 year plus assignment.
Responsibilities
Perform Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering design reviews for Substation sites.
Serve as Project Engineer / responsible engineer for projects related to Substation Sites and Equipment.
Lead civil site work, including drainage, stormwater, foundations, steel, concrete, and coordination for transformers, reactors, breakers, and other electric devices design/analysis; coordinate with outsourcing engineering firms inside substations.
Coordinate design/analysis for Transmission Tower projects.
Handle Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) replacement projects, including floor analysis to withstand new battery systems and other equipment as needed.
Coordinate revisions and projects such as substation roadways, stormwater management (channels and culverts) to remediate failures due to climate conditions or aging elements on/off substation property.
Support revisions and coordination with outsourcing engineering firms regarding design and analysis of new and/or existing substation building projects.
Office work with some local travel to visit work sites within the local DC, MD, VA area as needed.
Collaborate with internal teams and outside EOCs on substation site upgrades: breaker replacements, transformer replacements, stormwater projects, oil containment projects.
Provide civil work, drainage, site design and site development experience and ensure alignment with project goals.
Review work performed by 3rd party; function as liaison between outside engineering companies and provide detailed design directions to A.E. companies.
Review and approve permits drawings and construction drawings; ensure all engineering standards, construction standards and safety codes are met.
Provide support to the construction group during the construction phase to ensure timely project completion within defined scope.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
10 to 15 years of experience in engineering and electrical utility projects (5+ years also acceptable for some roles).
PE certification is a plus, but not required.
Electric utility experience preferred.
Software/tools: STAAD (preferred), MathCad, LPile are nice to have.
