Overview
Civil Engineer / Structural Engineer – Location: Washington, DC 20068. 1-2 year plus assignment.
Candidate will be responsible for performing Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering design reviews for Substation sites. Office work with some local travel to visit work sites within the local DC, MD, VA area. Working with internal teams and outside EOCs on Substation site upgrades including breaker replacement projects, transformer replacement projects, storm-water projects, and oil containment projects. Review work performed by 3rd party and function as liaison between outside engineering companies and internal teams; provide detailed design directions to AE companies. Review and approve permits drawings and construction drawings and assure that all engineering standards, construction standards and safety codes are met. Provide support to construction group during construction phase to assure timely completion within defined scope.
Responsibilities
Perform Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering design reviews for Substation sites.
Serve as Project Engineer / Responsible Engineer for projects related to Substation Sites and Equipment.
Coordinate with outsourcing engineering firms inside substations; review work and provide design directions.
Manage civil site work, drainage, storm water management, steel, concrete, foundations, transformers, reactors, breakers, and other electric devices design/analysis/revision.
Coordinate Transmission Tower projects design and/or analysis.
Assess Battery BESS replacement projects including floor analysis for new battery systems and related equipment.
Coordinate and revise projects such as substation roadways, storm water channels and culverts to remediate climate/age-related issues.
Support revisions and coordination with outsourcing firms for new and existing substation building projects.
Maintain liaison with internal teams and outside EOCs on substation site upgrades.
Review and approve permits drawings and construction drawings; ensure compliance with engineering and safety standards.
Provide support to construction group during construction phase to ensure timely completion within scope.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
10 to 15 years’ experience in engineering and electrical utility projects.
STAAD experience; PE certification is a plus, but not required.
Electric utility experience preferred.
Experience with civil site work, storm water, steel, concrete, foundations, and coordination with outside firms.
Proficiency with review of design/analysis and coordination for substations, including related civil/structural aspects.
Nice to have: MathCad, LPile.
Willingness to travel locally as needed.
