Under supervision, perform beginning-level engineering work in the field and office following established engineering methods and procedures. Assist professional engineers in tasks requiring advanced engineering skill and/or judgment. Make contacts with the public, contractors, and others on engineering matters; gather, prepare, and maintain engineering data, records, and reports. Apply engineering principles to civil, mechanical, electrical, environmental, or transportation engineering problems. Perform related duties as required. The Junior Engineer may direct the work of technical and/or clerical staff. Prepare or assist in preparing studies, calculations, designs, drawings, sketches, and plans using AutoCAD and other software tools. Conduct field inspections of structures and sites to determine needs for future construction, repair, or maintenance; perform preliminary field studies and surveys and collect data for designs and drawings. Inspect construction and repair projects to ensure conformance with plans, specifications, and codes; monitor and record work progress at construction sites. Prepare or assist in the preparation of reports, contract specifications, materials lists, cost estimates, schedules, and progress payments. Prepare departmental reports and reports regarding field conditions, project progress, and study results. Provide written and oral responses to inquiries from other agencies, contractors, and the public. May direct the activities of technical and/or clerical staff. Prepare correspondence and minutes. Perform specialized duties in civil, mechanical, electrical, transportation, and/or environmental engineering. Qualifications
Possession of a baccalaureate degree or graduate degree accredited by ABET with a major in Electrical Engineering. Or possession of a baccalaureate degree or graduate degree from a non-ABET accredited program with a major in Electrical Engineering and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate (NCEES). Or possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering from the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. Notes:
Candidates graduating within six months of the filing deadline may be invited to take the examination but must meet minimum qualifications before hiring. EIT may be required by filing deadline for invitation if graduation is within six months of the deadline. Most positions require a valid California driver license. After application submission, qualified candidates must complete steps to advance in the selection process, including a Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ) and a Electrical Engineering Written Examination (weight 100%). The exam may be computer-based or paper-based; format depends on the qualified applicant pool. Scores are banked for three years and may be applied to future announcements. Eligible List/Score : A confidential eligible list will be created for certification purposes. The duration of the eligible list is 6 months and may be extended with approval.
