Overview We are hiring several Estimators to support our Kiewit Building Group in the Vertical market. We are looking for individuals with a few years of estimating experience for engineering/construction projects, passionate about project planning, risk management and Detail-oriented, to grow their career in estimating and preconstruction engineering. You will work with seasoned estimators, supporting various design/build estimates for projects around the East coast, for vertical buildings that include new construction, modifications or upgrades for various types of buildings including government buildings, historical buildings, mixed-use/commercial, higher education, healthcare, sports facilities, large private healthcare, hotels, and high-rises.

Location You will be required to work in our Springfield, Virginia office.

Responsibilities

Develop complete estimates for large, complex jobs.

Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project and formulate a construction plan to serve as the basis for the estimate.

Review proposals and other documentation to prepare cost estimates.

Review all bid and contract documents and obtain home office legal department opinions.

Conduct site investigations prior to forming a plan of operations to identify problems or unusual conditions.

Utilize engineering techniques and procedures to conduct investigations and adhere to standard company policy and procedures.

Perform design work as required by the project beyond the estimator’s typical scope and address major technical problems during bid preparation.

Stay abreast of industry trends, new equipment, methods and procedures.

Become proficient in Kiewit’s estimating program, “InEight Estimate”.

Provide leadership and strategy in subcontractor and vendor selection.

Prepare special engineering studies or reports for bid items or conditions.

Consult with owners on problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, and schedules.

Qualifications

Undergraduate or graduate degree in mechanical, electrical, civil or construction-related technology, OR if no degree, minimum of 8 years related work experience leading to a thorough understanding of estimating knowledge and abilities. Prior Field Engineers or Superintendents with Estimating field experience are encouraged to apply.

3+ years of related estimating experience in the engineering/construction space. Experience with resource-loaded/cost-loaded estimates and material takeoffs is required.

Experience includes knowledge and estimating for vertical Building projects, preferably design/build estimates.

Attention to detail, strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and estimating software tools.

Willingness to visit project sites for walkdowns for estimating purposes.

Perform work safely and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs and equipment use policies.

Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within deadlines; overtime and weekends as required.

May work at various locations with varying conditions.

Compensation Base Compensation: $94,767 - $120,000

Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, and location.
