Full Time Position Overview We are hiring several Estimators to support our Kiewit Building Group in the Vertical market. We are looking for individuals with a few years of estimating experience for engineering/construction projects who are passionate about project planning, risk management and detail-oriented work, and who want to grow their career in estimating and preconstruction engineering. You will work with seasoned estimators, supporting various design/build estimates for projects around the East coast, for vertical buildings that include new construction, modifications or upgrades for various types of buildings including government buildings, historical buildings, mixed-use/commercial, higher education, healthcare, sports facilities, large private healthcare, hotels, and high-rises. District Overview Kiewit Building Group specializes in vertical construction, building office buildings, industrial complexes, education and sports facilities, hotels, hospitals, transportation terminals, government buildings, science and technology facilities, retail and special-use facilities, and extensive interior construction with tenant improvements. Our capabilities include all facets of construction and engineering including general contracting, construction management, design-build, design-assist and turn-key project development. Location You will be required to work in our Springfield, Virginia office. Responsibilities Develop complete estimates for large, complex jobs. Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop a plan for actual construction to serve as the basis for the estimate. Review proposals and other documentation to prepare cost estimates. Review all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions. Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify problems or unusual conditions. Utilize engineering techniques and procedures to conduct investigations and adhere to standard company policy and procedures. Perform design work as required by the project that is beyond the estimator scope of experience; handle major technical problems during bid preparation. Stay abreast of trends and developments in the industry (new equipment, methods, procedures). Become proficient in Kiewit’s estimating program, InEight Estimate. Provide leadership and strategy in subcontractor and vendor selection. Prepare special engineering studies or reports for bid items or conditions. Consult with owners on issues discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc. Qualifications Undergraduate or graduate degree in mechanical, electrical, civil or construction-related technology, OR, if no degree, minimum of 8 years related work experience leading to understanding of estimating knowledge, skills and abilities. Prior Field Engineers, Superintendents with Estimating field experience encouraged to apply. 3+ years' related estimating experience in the engineering/construction space. Experience with resource-loaded/cost-loaded estimates is required; experience performing material takeoffs. Experience must include knowledge and estimating for vertical building projects, preferably performing design/build estimates. Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and estimating software tools. Willingness to visit project sites for walkdowns for estimating purposes. Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required. May work at various locations; conditions may vary.
