College/Department Information The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University was founded nearly 200 years ago in 1828 as the nation\'s fifth public medical school. It is the state\'s flagship medical school and Augusta University\'s founding school. The Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine houses core resources including the Transgenic and Genome Editing Core, the Viral Vector Core, and a microscopy facility with multiphoton confocal microscopes, N-STORM, light-sheet, and imaging flow cytometry, supporting cutting-edge research in cellular and molecular neuroscience.
Job Summary A training position designed to learn through engagement in an advanced level of scientific technical and administrative work in support of research efforts in an assigned laboratory or clinical research setting. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, clinical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures.
Responsibilities
Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
Perform a variety of experimental studies including animal behavior, cell biology and molecular biology experiments. This may include animal surgery, microinjection, behavioral testing, genotyping, western blot, real-time PCR, immunohistochemistry and various microscopy and imaging techniques.
Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques; develop special computer programs if necessary to facilitate analysis.
Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other research personnel; advise investigators, postdocs, students and research personnel on techniques and procedures.
Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others.
Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair and operate microscopes and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Shift/Salary/Benefits Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range.
Conditions of Employment All selected candidates are required to pass a Background Check prior to starting. Depending on the duties, a credit check may be required for Positions of Trust or approved departmental purchases. Motor vehicle reports may be required for positions driving an Augusta University vehicle. For Faculty hires, final candidates must provide original transcripts or credential evaluations for foreign-trained candidates.
