Senior Tax Manager – Advisory-Focused CPA Firm (Raleigh/Wake Forest, NC)
About the Firm
A growing, entrepreneurial CPA firm in Wake Forest is redefining what tax and advisory work can look like. With a focus on
advisory-first client relationships , we’re building a boutique environment — not a Big 4 burnout shop — where a team of 5–10 high-caliber professionals can thrive. The firm’s culture emphasizes ownership, client relationships, mentorship, and long-term partnership opportunities. The Opportunity We are seeking a
Senior Tax Manager (CPA or EA)
who wants to build something meaningful alongside the founding partner. This role is ideal for someone who excels at both
technical tax leadership and client advisory work , while also enjoying the chance to
train, mentor, and implement processes
for the next generation of hires. You’ll immediately step into a leadership seat: managing client relationships, reviewing complex returns, shaping firm culture, and helping onboard the next two hires (a senior staff accountant and an administrative support person). Within 2–5 years, the right individual will have a clear path toward
equity/partnership . Key Responsibilities Lead client engagements in tax compliance and advisory services. Mentor and train upcoming staff; eventually oversee firm-wide training to free up partner bandwidth. Develop and implement firm procedures, processes, and culture during the first year. Collaborate with the partner on onboarding new clients, while managing your own book of business over time. Communicate complex tax and financial matters in
clear, simple language
for clients. Maintain high standards of accountability: treat each client relationship as your responsibility. Balance compliance with forward-looking advisory work, leveraging new tools (AI-assisted forecasting, automation, etc.). Qualifications CPA or EA required. 6+ years of public accounting experience, with proven tax technical expertise. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client relationships. Experience training, mentoring, and developing junior staff. Strong communicator — both written and verbal Entrepreneurial mindset with long-term interest in partnership and equity opportunities. Preference for candidates with local ties to the Wake Forest / Raleigh community. Bonus program
tied to production, profitability, billable hours, and realization rates (target ~1400 billable hours). PTO: ~3 weeks accrued annually, with blackout periods during busy season (Feb–April, Sept–Oct 15). Hybrid structure: ~2–3 days in office (flexible scheduling). Clear
partnership track within 2–5 years , with equity opportunities for the right cultural and business fit. Note : This reformats and consolidates the content to focus on the role details and required qualifications. Other job postings and non-essential boilerplate have been removed to maintain relevance to the Senior Tax Manager position.
