Job Overview

DonorsTrust is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our small, but growing, accounting team. As Senior Accountant, you will play a key part in supporting the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. Working with the controller and CFO, you will also maintain and reconcile DAF account balances in our database, ensuring smooth integration between financial data and our reporting systems. This is an in-person role based in Alexandria, VA. Key Responsibilities

General Accounting: Assist with the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes. Ensure that all transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with nonprofit accounting principles. Donor Fund Management: Support the tracking of donor-advised fund activity, including contributions, grants, and fund balances. Ensure that all transactions are properly classified and documented. Database Maintenance: Maintain and update the backend of our database to ensure accurate and seamless integration of financial data. Data Security & Reporting: Collaborate with the IT department to ensure that financial data is stored securely and can be accessed for reporting and analysis purposes. Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to database performance, data retrieval, and integration with accounting software. Audit Support: Help prepare documentation for external audits, providing necessary schedules and account reconciliations to auditors during the audit process. Donor Communications: Assist in providing financial statements and other required reports to donors, ensuring clarity and transparency in fund activity. Grant Disbursements: Assist in the preparation and processing of grant disbursements, ensuring timely and accurate payments to charitable organizations, in line with donor instructions. Accounts Payable & Contributions: Process invoices, payments, and receipts. Other Duties: Assist with special projects and ad-hoc financial analysis as needed by the finance team. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. At least 2-4 years of accounting experience. Understanding of accounting principles and the regulatory environment for nonprofits is helpful but not required. Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with database management or cloud-based systems (Azure, SQL Server, or similar). Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and donors. Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with donor-advised funds or nonprofit accounting roles. CPA or pursuing CPA designation. Experience with financial reporting in a nonprofit setting or willingness to learn. Experience in maintaining or working with cloud-based databases (especially Azure). Benefits
