We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join its executive team during a period of exciting growth. The CFO will oversee Finance, HR, and IT, and play a critical role in aligning financial strategy with the Aquarium’s long-term mission and vision. This position is ideal for a strategic, hands-on leader with experience in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment, strong financial acumen, and a passion for transparency, innovation, and stewardship. Base pay range: $160,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr Additional compensation types: Annual Bonus Responsibilities
Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, COO, and VPs on fiscal implications of operations, capital projects, and innovations. Proactively assess financial risks, operational gaps, and strategic opportunities across the organization. Provide comprehensive analysis of financial data, attendance trends, revenue streams, and department performance. Oversee budgeting, accounting, payroll, and financial reporting systems. Coordinate the annual audit and all regulatory filings (e.g., IRS Form 990, 5500, charitable solicitations, state licensure). Lead review and negotiation of all major contracts, vendor agreements, and insurance policies. Administer procurement, vendor management, and internal controls. Oversee organizational alignment to budget discipline and financial risk mitigation. Champion the use of BI and AI tools to create real-time dashboards and scenario modeling. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or an applicable field is required. CPA license is strongly preferred. 10+ years of experience in financial leadership roles. Experience in nonprofit or mission-based organizations preferred. A proven track record of proficiency with FP&A functions including, but not limited to, budgeting, cash flow tracking and analysis, financial planning, and forecasting. Senior Leadership
