Overview

Job Title: Overnight Security Guard at Inside Higher Ed

Location: Sarasota, FL

Job Type: Full-Time · Regular

Department: The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art (a department of Florida State University). Learn more about The Ringling at https://www.ringling.org/careers.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a point of contact for all venues and posts, indoors and outside, within the Ringling\'s 66-acre campus
  • Models and ensures compliance with the Ringling Security Operating Guidelines
  • Ensures the safety of all persons and property with a focus on customer service
  • Performs routine inspections and utilizes a golf cart, multi-line telephone, and two-way radio
  • Directs performance of security personnel in the absence of the Safety & Security Coordinator and Security Supervisors
  • Provides oversight and operation of the Ringling Museum Security Operations Center
  • Assists in execution of emergency plans concerning evacuation of venues in the event of fire, disasters, or other emergency situations
  • Assists individuals involved in accidents or injured on campus
  • Prepares written reports of accidents, incidents, and general conditions

Qualifications

Education

  • HS diploma or GED

Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk for long periods
  • Ascend/descend stairs
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions

Skills

  • Valid Driver\'s License or ability to obtain prior to hire
  • Note: a driver\'s permit is not acceptable

  • Remain calm and composed, even in stressful or challenging situations
  • Communicate in a respectful and effective manner in-person, written, and over two-way radios

Benefits and Compensation

Anticipated Salary Range: $33,408 + based on education, skills, and experience of the selected candidate. This role is eligible for a 10% shift differential based on hours of work. For more information about benefits, see the FSU Total Rewards section.

Considerations

  • This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check is required.
  • Work Location: Sarasota, FL.
  • Within the first twelve months, required training includes First Aid Certification, Blood-borne Pathogens Training, Weather Spotter Certification, FEMA IS courses IS-235 and IS-240, and Basic Campus Fire Suppression System Training, provided by The Ringling.

Working Hours

  • Tuesday - Saturday from 10:15 PM - 6:45 AM with 30 minutes for lunch
  • Flexible schedule including days, weekends, special events, and holidays based on The Ringling\'s needs
  • These duties are considered "essential" and may require work before, during, or after University closures due to weather or emergencies
