Job Title: IT Operations Support Technician • Location: Tallahassee, FL • Regular/Temporary: Regular • Full/Part Time: Full-Time • Job ID: 61305

Responsibilities

  • This position provides support for NWRDC-Southwood data center facility and customer processing.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the individual platforms, peripheral devices and facility infrastructure that support NWRDC.
  • Perform basic commands and monitor platforms and facility under limited supervision; follow rules, guidelines, and directions set by the supervisor.
  • Identify problems and take appropriate action to ensure timely and error-free service to the businesses supported by NWRDC; be available to work overtime and holidays as scheduled.
  • Establish or maintain knowledge of Data Center policies and procedures, including production control run schedules.
  • Monitor building security and computer room access; maintain knowledge of mainframe platforms, hardware configurations, facility and infrastructure, and Enterprise Network Monitoring Tools.
  • Monitor platforms for system messages, report issues, and escalate as needed; monitor status of customer-owned equipment and access to that equipment.
  • Maintain Data Center logs and forms; manage ITSM Incident & Service Request processing tool; create incidents/service tickets and escalate as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between applications, technical support, scheduling, and network staff to facilitate problem resolution during abnormal circumstances.

Facility Training

  • Attend/complete facility training: weekly load test (Switchgear) and quarterly or monthly training based on proficiency; quarterly chiller system training or monthly for new employees.
  • React to emergencies within required timeframes: switchgear within 5 minutes, chilled water system within 10 minutes.
  • Communicate issues clearly to facility staff to avert facility shutdown.

Service Desk

  • Act as Service Desk representative after hours and on weekends; perform daily routines and related duties.
  • Participate in approved professional development opportunities per NWRDC policy.
  • Work to ensure timely and error-free service; overtime and holiday availability as scheduled.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency and three years' experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to three years.
  • Ideal candidate should be a self-starter, willing to work Monday – Friday 11:00pm – 7:30am, and willing to work holidays and emergencies as necessary.
  • At least 3 years minimum data center/operations experience; ability to report to duty during natural disasters or emergencies.

What to expect and related notes

  • Typical day involves monitoring all aspects of the data center; may require long periods of alertness and some physical activity (bending, walking, lifting, climbing stairs).
  • First 60-90 days include a 16-week training program.
