TRUCK DRIVER HVY M – Orange County Public Schools
Under direction, operate heavy trucks for the pickup, distribution, transport, and delivery of various materials for the school district. Leads work crews in the operation of automotive trucks and equipment according to assigned work orders. Transports items including work site waste and debris, sand, dirt, clay, gravel, heavy equipment, concrete and asphalt, and construction materials. The work is physically demanding and requires dexterity and physical agility in loading, transferring, and unloading equipment and materials. Performs related work as directed.
Examples Of Essential Functions
- Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
- Functions in a lead worker capacity for work crews engaged in retrieval, removal, loading and distribution of materials, waste and debris at various school location work sites; loading dump trucks, clearing land, removing soil and concrete, grading, demolishing structures.
- Operates heavy trucks and various automotive equipment in the retrieval, transport, and delivery of materials and equipment for the school district.
- Observes standards of safe truck and equipment operation on highways, roadways, and school grounds to ensure the protection of life and property.
- Transports and delivers items including work site waste and debris, sand, dirt, clay, gravel, heavy equipment, concrete and asphalt, and construction materials.
- Maintains vehicle service records and repair logs; adheres to preventive maintenance and service schedules.
- Operates a variety of trucks and related equipment as applicable to assigned work orders (e.g., dump trucks, front end loaders, back hoes, graders, bulldozers, forklifts, tractors, rollers, bucket trucks, hydraulic cranes).
- Performs various basic to semi-skilled trades and property maintenance functions within scope of abilities as gained through time and experience.
- Keeps up to date on current technology used by OCPS; attends training with district support to maintain required skill levels.
- Maintains timely and accurate information as part of job responsibilities.

Minimum Training And Experience
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by a minimum of 3 years progressively skilled driving experience operating heavy trucks and automotive equipment, and maintaining basic activity and numerical records, with ability to meet dexterity and physical requirements; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Requires ability to maintain a valid commercial driver’s license class “A”.
