Provides direct and indirect patient care in the critical care setting. Communicates with Physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. Participates in performance improvement activities. Knowledge of mission and core values. One year or more of documented acute care experience is required during the past two years. Meets unit expectations and completes skills checklist for unit and all mandatory education programs, and is an active participant in team nursing and/or total care nursing. Able to delegate assignments and evaluate during shift needs of the unit, patients and coworkers.
Job Summary : Provides direct and indirect patient care in the critical care setting. Communicates with Physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including hemodynamic monitoring, results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.
Responsibilities :
Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition
Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors
Ability to monitor hemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results
Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy
Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness
Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning
Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately based upon ACLS protocol
Provides care to patients with compromised nutritional/metabolic status
Provides care to patients requiring extensive fluid and electrolyte management
Consults and Communicates appropriately and clearly to Charge Nurse, Co-Workers and Physicians and appropriate departments
Provides care appropriate to disease condition and age of the patient
Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary
Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity
Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care
Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments
Documentation meets current standards and policies
Ability to assess and care for patients in the post anesthesia period in the Emergency Department
Participates in performance improvement activities
Required Skills/Abilities :
Physical ability to perform all nursing duties which include turning, positioning and lifting of patients of various age, size and weight
Triage experience helpful
Accountable to Department Manager and Nursing Administration
Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
Additional languages preferred
Current California Registered Nurse License
Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS Certification required
Successful documented/observed competency during orientation
Basic computer knowledge
Education & Experience :
Minimum of one year acute care experience within the past two years in an accredited hospital preferred
Minimum of one year working in an Emergency Department preferred
