Overview
Job Title: AWS Cloud Platform Engineer, Ld. Location: Reston, VA (Hybrid)
– onsite required 1X weekly. If not local - onsite required 1X monthly (expenses not covered) Type: 6 + months contract

Seeking a highly skilled AWS Cloud Platform Engineer to lead hands-on migration and automation efforts as part of a large-scale transition from on-premise systems to AWS. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and supporting scalable cloud infrastructure using Terraform and AWS-native tools, with a strong emphasis on lift-and-shift migrations and automation. Responsibilities
Lead and execute
on-prem to AWS cloud migrations , with a focus on
lift-and-shift
strategies. Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable AWS infrastructure using
Terraform, Ansible, and Python . Implement automation for provisioning, deployment, and maintenance (Infrastructure as Code). Troubleshoot complex systems, perform root cause analysis, and ensure high system availability. Evaluate new tools and technologies to enhance cloud platform capabilities. Mentor team members and contribute to engineering standards and best practices. Collaborate with development, architecture, and security teams to align cloud solutions with business needs. Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelors in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or 4 additional years of experience in lieu). 10+ years of overall IT experience. 5+ years hands-on AWS cloud engineering and automation experience. Proven success supporting enterprise-level cloud migrations. Certifications
At least 1 AWS certification required (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer). FinOps certification is a plus. Technical Skills
Cloud Migration:
Deep experience with
lift-and-shift migration
from on-prem to AWS. AWS Services:
VPC, EC2, IAM, S3, Lambda, RDS, CloudFormation, EKS, CloudTrail, CloudWatch. Automation & IaC:
Terraform (required), Ansible, Python (Boto3), AWS CDK. Containers & Orchestration:
Docker, Kubernetes, EKS. DevOps Toolchain:
Jenkins, Bitbucket, Git, Artifactory, CI/CD pipelines. Monitoring & Observability:
DataDog, New Relic, AppDynamics, Jaeger. System Administration:
Strong Linux experience, Bash scripting. Preferred Experience
Experience leading cloud transformation initiatives and platform modernization. Exposure to AI/ML services on AWS is a plus (SageMaker, Bedrock, Kendra, Lambda). Strong grasp of security best practices, cloud-native design, and microservices. Agile/Scrum environment experience. Soft Skills
Strong communicator with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams. Self-driven, hands-on engineer who can lead by example. Passion for continuous learning and mentoring.
