Information Technology Specialist II role at California State Controller's Office. Hybrid work arrangement in Sacramento County. Permanent, full-time position within the State Accounting and Reporting Division (SARD). Duty Statement

The Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II) serves as the lead programmer and technical SME within the Financial Information Systems Team (FIST). Responsibilities include supporting the State’s Fiscal, Budgetary/Legal, and GAAP systems, maintaining and enhancing mainframe-based financial platforms, ensuring data integrity and regulatory compliance, and modernizing interfaces. The ITS II leads end-to-end systems analysis of legacy systems and inbound/outbound interfaces, designs and implements improvements, and automates peripheral systems connected to Fi$Cal and related platforms. The ITS II acts as the lead programmer and in-house SME for the Financial Information Staging Engine (FISE) and supports Fi$Cal during the transition to the state’s official book of record. Training and mentoring of staff on FISE and related tools are expected. The ITS II provides SME-level support for Fi$Cal and other statewide projects involving fiscal system interfaces, data extraction, and sharing, particularly around fiscal year-end activities. Additional duties include coding, testing, debugging, and maintaining databases and reporting tooling, documenting interfaces, and supporting audit readiness. The role also provides high-level analytical and technical support to ISD.

The position requires deep technical knowledge of both legacy and modern fiscal systems, ability to manage dual operations during Fi$Cal transition, and experience in data validation for fiscal reporting. Training and mentoring IT staff, plus experience supporting complex system interfaces, are expected. Application Instructions
