Payroll and Receivables Specialist | Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist)
California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accounting Officer to support its mission by performing advanced accounting duties in the Accounts Receivable Team.
Base Pay Range : $6,031.00 - $7,547.00 A
Job Type : 12 Month Limited Term, Part Time (1/2 Time)
Location : Sacramento, CA (in-person two days per week; up to three days telework possible)
Responsibilities
Analyze and process complex financial and payroll accounts receivable transactions with accuracy.
Review and verify source documents, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
Resolve issues independently and provide expert support for Payroll Accounts Receivable (PARs) and related AR functions.
Maintain daily transactions using the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal).
Qualifications
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Power BI).
Strong knowledge of accounting rules, regulations, and FI$Cal; experience supporting year‑end close activities.
Ability to analyze routine to complex accounting issues and apply guidance for accurate transactions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; focus on excellent customer service.
Effective at managing time, prioritizing multiple projects, and working independently or collaboratively.
Eligibility New to California State Service applicants must pass the required examination for this classification. Current state employees must also pass the examination to qualify.
Telework Eligible for up to three days per week telework; requires in‑person presence two days per week at the headquarters office. Must maintain primary residency in California.
Compensation and Benefits
State medical, dental, vision benefits; state pension; 401(k)/457 program participation.
Salary range reflects base pay; does not include Personal Leave Program adjustment.
