Lead Solution OT Architect

Alliant Energy Location: Madison, WI. This position leads the design of secure, scalable, and innovative OT solutions that power communities across the grid. You will set the strategy, define standards, and drive the integration of next-generation operational technologies with enterprise IT to ensure reliability, resiliency, and sustainability. Responsibilities

Defines and maintains OT architecture standards, reference models, and lifecycle strategies. Designs and implements secure, high-performance OT solutions across SCADA, AMI, PI Historians, and DCS systems. Leads integration efforts between OT platforms and enterprise IT systems, including data lakes and cloud analytics. Collaborates with cybersecurity and compliance teams to ensure alignment with NERC CIP, TSA, and internal policies. Supports infrastructure planning for VLANs, wireless mesh, fiber networks, and edge computing. Partners with vendors for licensing, upgrades, and support contracts. Contributes to capital and O&M planning for OT initiatives. Develops business-relevant metrics to measure architecture effectiveness. Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s values and helps deliver on our purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities. Qualifications

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Preferred. Required Experience

10+ years of work experience in IT, including 5 years in software development or application architecture, and 5 years of experience in solution architecture. Proven experience in OT architecture within utility or industrial environments. Preferred Experience

Extensive knowledge of SCADA, AMI, PI Historians, DCS (Ovation), and field device integration. Strong understanding of IT/OT convergence, cybersecurity frameworks, and regulatory compliance (e.g., NERC CIP, TSA). Experience with tools such as Canary Labs Historian, Beamex CMX, Condmaster Ruby, AMSC HMI, and ServiceNow. Relevant certifications (e.g., ISA/IEC 62443, Cisco, CompTIA). Background in systems engineering, enterprise architecture, and utility-scale OT environments. Proficiency in cloud technologies and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Demonstrated ability to lead technical planning, software design, vendor evaluation, and solution justification. Solid grasp of design patterns, object-oriented analysis, and modeling tools. Experience with TOGAF methodology and translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences. Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and system designs. Excellent communication and leadership skills for cross-functional collaboration. Key Skills
