Overview: The Bureau of Vital Statistics registers and certifies all birth, death, spontaneous and induced terminations of pregnancy in NYC, issuing and analyzing vital records and serving as a large 24/7 public-facing operation.

There are approximately 120,000 births and 52,000 deaths registered each year, with about 1 million certified copies of certificates issued annually. Vital event data support numerous health department programs and national reporting.

Duties

Receive and store supplies and forms for the Office of Vital Records.

Maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, forms, and security paper.

Distribute records, forms, supplies, and equipment to other Bureau of Vital Statistics (BVS) units.

Maintain and secure off-site storage facilities and equipment, with travel across NYC boroughs.

Deliver certified paper to various units on a predetermined schedule.

Secure and lock the certified paper area when unoccupied to ensure proper distribution and security.

Pick up, store, and maintain records per retention schedule; assist in witnessed disposal of records.

Print archival labels, affix labels to boxes, and place birth and death records in archival storage.

Update the Vital Records electronic database to ensure accurate inventory counts.

Assist with Records Management and other BVS-related special projects as needed.

Preferred Skills

Experience operating electric transports.

Strong organizational and inventory management skills.

Basic computer skills.

Valid NYS driver’s license.

Salary: $40,321.00 – $54,000.00
