Overview Cranfill Sumner LLP (Raleigh) is seeking an attorney with 8+ years’ experience and a book of business in cyber security and data privacy law for both litigation/investigation and advice/compliance. Candidates should be seeking a home for their practice and a foundation on which to grow dynamically. Candidates must have a background in technology law, privacy law or intellectual property and IAPP membership. Candidates must be ready and excited to grow their practice and provide top-notch client service. Must have excellent written and oral advocacy skills, plus enjoy working in a team environment. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Manage regulatory inquiries, investigations and litigation

Manage cybersecurity incident responses

Assess client information systems for compliance with data privacy laws and regulations

Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments

Advise clients on privacy-related product improvements

Draft data protection agreements, addenda and amendments

Interpret statutes, regulations, and case law related to privacy and cybersecurity

Up-to-date and on-going research on cutting edge and trending technology, compliance, legal risks and consequences

IAPP Privacy Certifications (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM) or present pursuit of same

Ability to serve as Data Privacy Officers for clients on a case-by-case basis

Evaluation of data handling practices and reviewing policies, contracts and compliance documentation

Excellent client service through written and verbal communication, including translating technical and legal risks and issues into understandable language as well as providing summaries, strategies, advocacy, updates, and counsel

Settlement and negotiation skills for mediations, arbitrations, settlement, and reviewal of terms

Trial skills including strategy; review and analysis of all factual and legal issues relating to liability, compensability, valuation, and constitutional matters; preparation of witnesses, exhibits, motions and supporting briefs; and arguing/defending motions

Collaboration and Communication appropriate for successful team-oriented work

Effective communication with co-counsel, opposing counsel and expert witnesses

Efficiency and Organization to manage an active caseload

Commitment to business development; thought leadership on cybersecurity; and presentations on current topics

General Technology Skills, e.g., GenAI; Billing Software; Microsoft Suite; Outlook; Westlaw or Lexis
