Acts as the lead Airport Patrol Officer. Handles complaints from citizens, passengers, and airport tenants; researches and recommends training topics; and serves as the after-hours media contact. Acts as the Officer-In-Charge during incidents or events; acts as the lead airport staff member, to provide guidance to other staff and resolve issues; responsible for ensuring that safe practices are followed by Airport Law Enforcement personnel; coordinates assignments and oversees work performance of Airport Law Enforcement personnel; monitors adherence to Airport Law Enforcement policies and procedures. Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of airport law enforcement; criminal procedures and investigative techniques; California Vehicle and Penal code; firearm safety and self-defense; Federal Aviation Administration Regulations; Transportation Security Administration Regulations modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment; principles and procedures of record keeping; pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations. Ability to:

Make decisions in emergency situations to protect life and property at the Airport; enforce Federal Aviation Regulations, Federal Transportation Security Regulations, State Penal Code, State Vehicle Code and Municipal Code regulations, departmental procedures, security guidelines and other regulations applicable to airport security; tactfully communicate rules and regulations to the public, airport tenants and unruly individuals; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of duty; project a positive public image; document shift activities in written form; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Experience:

A minimum of two years of law enforcement experience as a sworn peace officer is required. Age Requirement:

Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment. License Requirements:

Applicant must possess a valid California Driver's License at the time of appointment. Work Schedule:

Incumbents must be available to work all shifts Monday through Sunday, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, call back and standby duty. Airport Patrol Officer II can be assigned either a 3/12 work schedule (3 days, 12 hours per day with one 8 hour shift per pay period), 3/12 ½ work schedule (3 days, 12½ hours per day with a one 10 hour pay-back shift per month) or a 4/10 work schedule (4 days, 10 hours per day). Other Requirements:

Appointees must possess either 1) two years of law enforcement experience as a sworn peace officer and a current and valid California POST Regular Basic Course Academy Certificate / POST Certificate or 2) five years of sworn Airport Law Enforcement experience with an Airport Law Enforcement agency and possess (or have the ability to obtain) an appropriate, Aviation Security Training (PC 832.1) certificate of completion, and an appropriate, valid baton and chemical agent certificate. Appointee must also successfully complete Aviation Security Training PC 832.1 within ninety days of appointment. Applicants must not have a history of personal or criminal conduct which would affect suitability for employment as a Patrol Sergeant (Airport Patrol Officer II). Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable. Applicants must submit a completed City Application, responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire, and the completed Acknowledgement Form.
