Marea Therapeutics
Overview
Marea Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company based in San Francisco with a growing pipeline of first-in-class therapies to address genetically validated cardioendocrine disease targets. Our therapies have the potential to complement existing therapies and serve as transformative treatment options for significant patient populations living with cardioendocrine diseases. Incubated by Third Rock Ventures, Marea completed a Series B financing in June 2024 and is now well funded by a syndicate of life science investors. The company’s lead program is in Phase 2 clinical development (MAR001) and a MAR002 is progressing towards clinical development. Marea is a fast-growing company looking for extraordinary individuals to join our team who want to make a difference in the lives of millions of people living with cardioendocrine diseases. The company is led by a dynamic team of scientists and company builders with deep knowledge and experience in cardioendocrine diseases, human genetics, and adipocyte biology. At Marea, we believe in the power of collaboration and the importance of leading by example. We are a tight-knit team that values the contributions of every member, from interns to senior leaders. Our environment is dynamic, with each day presenting new challenges and opportunities for growth. Every role is “Hands-On”, and the successful candidate will be able to work alongside team members, regardless of level, to understand challenges and drive results. About The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist with broad hands-on experience with in vitro molecular/cell-based assays and antibody functional characterization studies to join our research team. This role will work closely with the head of biology and other research team members in the optimization and execution of molecular, cellular and ex vivo studies to support drug candidate selection and preclinical research. A good foundation in cell culture, tissue and blood sample processing, functional bioassays and gene expression assays is essential. The ideal candidate will have technical excellence, scientific rigor, great interpersonal/collaboration skills and outstanding work ethic. This is a full-time, San Francisco-based position with the expectation of working on-site. Responsibilities
Execute workflows involving mammalian cell culture (including primary cells), as well as processing of solid tissues and blood samples (e.g., PBMCs, serum, plasma). Prepare lysate samples or isolate DNA/RNA for downstream molecular analysis. Perform high-throughput (96-/384-well) molecular biology and immune-based quantitative assays, including Branched DNA assay, RT-qPCR, ELISA, Western blot and other immunoassays to evaluate mRNA and protein levels in various matrices. Optimize and execute antibody characterization assays for functional evaluation of antibody activity in vitro. Maintain impeccable experiment and data records; present results clearly to internal teams and contribute data to scientific publications, regulatory documents, and conference materials. Qualifications
B.S./M.S. in Life Sciences (e.g., Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology) with 8+ years of applied biology industry experience. Strong knowledge of cell culture techniques; skilled in cell, tissue and blood sample processing. Hands-on experience with high-throughput quantitative in vitro assays; familiar with assay qualification principles and controls. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a lean team environment; willingness to cover for planned absences as needed. Experience with biological data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, SoftMax Pro, FlowJo) and ELN. Comfortable working in a fast-paced biotech startup environment; experience supporting/contributing to drug discovery, candidate selection, or IND-enabling studies is preferred. Working conditions
