The Baliga lab is seeking a self-motivated Research Associate I to assist projects related to infectious diseases. The successful candidate will have a BS in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related field in life or data sciences. The position requires previous experience in basic microbial and sterile techniques and high-throughput omics data generation and analysis. Additional experience working with single cells and MATLAB are a plus. The candidate will need to independently perform experiments or analyses and provide critical feedback on the experimental design of proposed experiments. The candidate should also be willing to work flexible hours (early/late hours and possibly some weekends) to accommodate experimental schedules. Strong organizational, interpersonal and oral communication skills are essential along with attention to detail, time management skills, and self-starting attitude.
Duties & Responsibilities (include, but not limited to):
Setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting cultures of experimental organisms (bacteria, macrophages, etc.)
Collecting, analyzing, and documenting experimental results in laboratory notebooks
Reviewing data in compliance with existing requirements
Maintaining a safe and clean working environment
Desired experiences:
Good understanding of microbiology and extensive experience in lab techniques
Familiarity with running and analyzing high-throughput genome-wide experimentation including but not limited to ChIP-Seq, Tn-Seq, RNA-seq
Familiarity with flow cytometers and experience in cell sorting
Experience working in BSL-3 environment
Preferred but Not Required:
Experience with MATLAB and knowledge of R or python
Experience in working with single cells.
