Overview

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a tenure-line position in Mechanical Engineering at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of batteries and/or energy storage. Energy storage is an interdisciplinary field with opportunities for collaboration across materials, chemical kinetics, control theory, and systems engineering, with applications across the university. The position is co-funded by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Energy and the Environment at Penn State. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is home to more than 65 faculty, 350 graduate students, and 1110 undergraduate students, with research funding in excess of $41.9M per year. Penn State encourages interdisciplinary research through university-level institutes focused on materials, health, and energy. The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs in mechanical engineering, including online graduate programs in mechanical engineering and in additive manufacturing and design. The Institute of Energy and the Environment (IEE) connects interdisciplinary teams to address energy and environmental challenges. Further information on IEE is available at its website. Responsibilities

Teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Develop an internationally recognized, externally-funded research program. Contribute to the operation and promotion of the department, college, university, and profession through service. Engage in interdisciplinary research collaborations and promote excellence and innovation in interdisciplinary research. Collaborate with Penn State's Institute of Energy and the Environment; the successful candidate will be a collaborative leader. Qualifications

Assistant Professor: Ph.D. in engineering or a closely related field by the appointment start date; demonstrated ability as a teacher or researcher; evidence of growth in scholarly or professional achievement. Associate Professor: same qualifications as the Assistant Professor, with evidence of an established reputation in scholarly or professional achievement. Application Process
