Overview
Assistant/Associate Professor of Toxicology (Tenure-track). The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences in the College of Agricultural Sciences and the Institute of Energy and Environment of The Pennsylvania State University are seeking applications for a tenure-track, faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank in Toxicology/Pharmacology. The position focuses on environmental chemical contaminants of emerging importance (e.g., microplastics, PFAS) and the exposome. Expertise in microbiome, toxicology, and metabolism/metabolomics is desired, with research interests in toxicology, the microbiome, inflammation, cancer biology, and/or the impact of environmental chemicals on disease. The faculty member will develop a strong, high-profile independent research program supported by extramural funding to generate novel discoveries and will assume a key role in interdisciplinary research collaborations. The successful candidate will be co-funded through Penn State University s Institutes of Energy and the Environment (IEE). The candidate should be a collaborative leader who will promote and enhance excellence and innovation in interdisciplinary research. Responsibilities
Position has 75% research and 25% teaching responsibilities, including teaching classes associated with the Pharmacology/Toxicology major in the department. Develop an independent, high-impact research program and establish extramural funding. Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations and contribute to related graduate programs (e.g., Pathobiology, Molecular and Cellular Integrative Life Sciences, Physiology, Nutritional Sciences). Be a collaborative leader fostering excellence and innovation across departments and centers. Qualifications
PhD in toxicology, pharmacology, biochemistry, cancer biology, physiology, microbiology, or other relevant disciplines (or equivalent degree). Postdoctoral experience with publications in exposome, toxicology, environmental health, or cancer biology is preferred. Completion of all degree requirements by the appointment date is required. Experience with modern approaches such as metagenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, or metabolomics, and comparative approaches across species is encouraged. Excellent research, teaching, and grant-writing skills; strong communication, leadership, and collaboration abilities; ability to work with diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, industry, and agencies.
