Department of Transportation Job Description and Duties
The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Structure Construction (SC), is recruiting to fill a Transportation Engineer – Civil (TEC). This position is located in Arcata, CA. Under the direction of a Senior Bridge Engineer (Supervisor) in DES, SC, the incumbent performs a wide variety of professional engineering work in a field and office setting; as incumbents progress in experience, they will be assigned more difficult work. This work is performed on highway construction projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, sign structures and appurtenances. The incumbent works as a field engineer to ensure contractors build structures in compliance with the contract documents. Incumbent will also act as an Assistant Structure Representative, Structure Representative, or Resident Engineer on construction projects performing professional level review on contract documents, submittal, and engineered plans. Key Responsibilities
Perform professional engineering work in a field and office setting Ensure contractors build structures in compliance with contract documents Act as an Assistant Structure Representative, Structure Representative, or Resident Engineer on construction projects Requirements
Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle A valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required for appointment to Range D Statement of Qualification (SOQ) is required Working Conditions
Position located at 5065 Boyd Rd Suite J, Arcata, CA 95521, Humboldt County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. This position may be eligible for telework. Business travel may be required. The Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program is a mandatory 24 month to 33 months rotation assignment for all permanent, full-time Transportation Engineer (Civil) employees.
