Overview
Teaching Specialist/Lecturer (2025-2026): Anthropology – University of Minnesota Job role in the Department of Anthropology, College of Liberal Arts, University of Minnesota. Positions are temporary, part-time, and may be staffing needs for teaching courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate students. Openings may occur in the evening, summer sessions, or courses offered through Independent and Distance Learning. This description establishes a pool of applicants to be contacted if openings occur during the 2025/26 academic year; appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance. Appointments may be for Fall 2025 (8/25/2025 - 1/7/2026) or Spring 2026 (1/8/2026 - 5/24/2026). Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate or graduate courses in assigned course(s) and work with students to improve knowledge, plan and develop lessons and assignments, and assess progress by grading papers and tests. Hold office hours to assist and advise students, coordinate with teaching assistants (if assigned to discussion sections), and participate in relevant departmental meetings. Work with students to improve knowledge, plan and develop lessons, and assess student progress. Attend department meetings and contribute to course planning and evaluation as needed. For Teaching Specialists: teach undergraduate courses in classroom settings. For Lecturers: teach undergraduate and graduate courses in classroom settings. Qualifications
Teaching Specialist Required Qualifications:
MA degree or BA/BS degree plus 4 years of post-baccalaureate education in an advanced degree program; degree knowledge in the course content area; evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills; special expertise; and a demonstrated teaching need within the department. Lecturer Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree; knowledge of the course content area; evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills; special expertise; and a demonstrated teaching need within the department. About The Department
The Department of Anthropology provides training in archaeology, biological anthropology, and sociocultural anthropology. Faculty offer courses covering a wide range of topics related to human life and history, from skeletal analysis to language evolution. We prepare over 2,200 undergraduate students each year for careers in medicine, law, public policy, cultural resources management, heritage preservation, business, and advanced graduate study. Pay Range:
Undergraduate credit courses: $1,585 - $3,000 per credit; undergraduate courses: $6,000 - $9,000 per course (depending on education/qualifications/experience). Retirement plan options are available.
